This report examines the prevalence of bullying in RI public schools and focuses on the types of bullying students are experiencing, the reasons they are being bullied, if they report the bullying and if they feel safe at school. The data were collected through SurveyWorks questionnaires which were administered annually to all students in grades 4-12 from the school years 2009-10 through 2013-14. The survey questions are very similar at the Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) levels, however the Elementary (grades 4-5) survey asks significantly fewer questions about bullying. Results are shown at a school level.

The School Grouping button at the top of the graph allows you to choose for which schools, by grade configuration, you wish to see results. The other drop down menus allow you to change the question for which you want to see the results. Each item in the drop down menu indicates which level survey the question was included on (E) Elementary, (M) Middle, and/or (H) High. The Time Slider allows you to compare survey results for various school years. Use the data table to select a school by name or to see data for a specific question. Note: Questions about reasons for skipping were asked only of students who said they skipped school in the past year. Questions about types of bullying, reasons for being bullied, and reporting bullying were asked only of students who said they were bullied in the past year. Questions on reasons for not reporting bullying were only asked of students who said they were bullied and did not report it in the past year.

** Data will not be shown for any questions in which fewer than 10 students responded.

** Due to changes in the survey format, not all questions are available for all years.

** Schools may appear in more than one subset depending on their grade configuration.
