Youth at Risk of DCYF-Schools Involvement

Middle schools students have fewer risk factors in general, but the risks rise steeply in schools we know to have high concentrations of students in poverty.

If we change the vertical axis to % Ever Retained in Grade, we see a tall bar at the right representing UCAP, a special program specifically for students who are at least 1 or more grades below where they should be. Notice also, that the retention policies in Providence and Newport schools lead to high rates of holding students back -- a principal indicator of a future drop out.
