Short Definition: % students who were absent from school between 10% and 20% of days enrolled
Long Definition:
Percent of students moderately absent, or absent from school at least 10% and less than 20% of the days they were enrolled, with no minimum number of days enrolled. Both excused and unexcused absences are counted. Truancy is a separate measure and is not included here. Records with values of -1 indicate data suppression to protect student confidentiality.

Purpose:
This indicator allows us to measure and compare absenteeism among students. Absence matters because regular school attendance is important for academic performance. Attendance rates alone can mask high absenteeism among subgroups of students.
Limitations:
Attendance/Absenteeism may be defined and/or reported differently across different schools and districts. Records with values of -1 indicate data suppression to protect student confidentiality.
Universe: Rhode Island public school students enrolled at least 1 day in a school year
