# Bullied by Teasing (EMH)

Short Definition: # of students who were teased within the last year (SurveyWorks: Elementary, Middle, and High)

Long Definition:

The number of students within a given school who said they had been made fun of, insulted, or called names at school within the last year. This question was answered as part of the SurveyWorks questionnaire and was included in the surveys for Elementary, Middle, and High school students. SurveyWorks is the Rhode Island Department of Education's new opinions-and-perceptions survey and is administered annually to all students in grades 4-12. SurveyWorks is age appropriate for each level — elementary, middle and high school — but it covers roughly the same areas of questioning for all three levels.

Geographies: School

Data Type: Numeric

Purpose:

This indicator allows us to measure and compare the different types of bullying experienced among students. Understanding what types of bullying exist is important to reducing bullying in schools.

Limitations:

Versions of this question vary slightly by grade level. The Middle and High school version reads "I have been made fun of, insulted, or called names at school" while the Elementary version reads "Kids at school have called me names or made fun of me" which may limit the ability to compare the responses directly. The information is self-reported.

Universe: All students enrolled in grades 4-12 in a RI public school who participated in the SurveyWorks survey.
