Short Definition: % of students scoring at or above the proficiency level on the NECAP reading test
Long Definition:
Percent of students who achieved "proficient" or "proficient with distinction" on the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) reading test. Indicates that students have a level of proficiency necessary to begin working successfully on current grade content and skills. The NECAP reading test is administered every October to students in grades 3-8 and 11 in Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and to students in grades 3-8 in Maine. Student scores are aggregated based on their enrollment during the test administration.

Purpose:
This indicator allows us to compare the percentage of students who are at various levels of proficiency in reading and measure reading performance on standardized tests.
Limitations:
NECAP is designed to assess learning from the prior year (teaching year) at the beginning of the next school year (testing year). Data for this indicator are aggregated based on their school or district at the time of testing (testing year).
