Short Definition: % students who Feel unsafe at school based on 3+ reports of feeling unsafe
Long Definition:
Percent of students who reported that they feel unsafe at their school. Students were counted if they reported that three or more of the following things happened at least once during the last school year: they were afraid that someone will hurt or bother them, they brought something to school for protection, they were threatened to be beat up (threatened with violence), they had something that cost more than a dollar stolen from their locker or desk when they weren't around, they were actually beaten up or really hurt at school, they were offered drugs at school. This indicator is discontinued for future comparisons because of lack of consistency between the questions in the SALT survey and the new SurveyWorks! questions.

Purpose:
This indicator allows for comparison of safety and learning environment between schools, and also allows for comparison with other education indicators.
Limitations:
The last SALT survey was administered in 2007-08. The new SurveyWorks! survey is replacing SALT.
This indicator is discontinued for future comparisons because of lack of consistency between the questions in the SALT survey and the new SurveyWorks! questions.
