% Hassled to Smoke or Use Alcohol or Drugs - SALT ONLY

Short Definition: % students who were hassled by their friends to smoke or use alcohol or drugs

Long Definition:

Percent of students who reported that during the last month they were pressured by friends to smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs and it was a very big hassle. This indicator is discontinued for future comparisons because of lack of consistency between the questions in the SALT survey and the new SurveyWorks! questions.

Purpose:

This indicator is important due to the influence of peers on adolescent choices and behavior and the negative effects of adolescent substance use.

Limitations:

The last SALT survey was administered in 2007-08. The new SurveyWorks! survey is replacing SALT.

This indicator is discontinued for future comparisons because of lack of consistency between the questions in the SALT survey and the new SurveyWorks! questions.

Universe: Rhode Island public elementary, middle, high school students in participating schools and grades
